General information

As part of a degree programme, certain courses and examinations must be completed in addition to other achievements. These are based on a defined curriculum (syllabus). It may be that an academic achievement is required for a particular examination that has already been completed as part of another training or further education programme. It is then possible to submit an application for "recognition of qualfications". Upon recognition, the work is deemed to have been completed and the recognised examination or other coursework does not have to be taken again. In the European Union, the ECTS system facilitates the mutual recognition of academic and examination achievements.
